Despite all the media attention and information we receive on eating healthy, we’re bombarded daily by convenience, be it from the television commercials with big, fat, juicy burgers that aren’t so big, fat and juicy when you get them, to cooking shows highlighting fine dining that we don’t think we can ever do for ourselves at home. So we get frustrated and think that those things are for other people, not for us; after all, we’re alone, right? We aren’t worth anyone pampering us, so why should we do it for ourselves? Right? [...] It seems more and more there’s a constant attack on our food, from one corner or another. If it’s not genetically-modified foods, it’s Salmonella or some other dangerous bacteria. So now the questions: Why all of a sudden are we seeing so many recalls: Why suddenly are fresh vegetables popping up with E. coli or Salmonella? I thought it only meat had the potential for E. coli. Since it’s becoming more of a problem, and potentially more deadly, what is E. coli, why are we hearing more about it now and what can we, as individuals, do about it? [...] When you’re single, the last thing you think about is your dishes and silverware; after all, it’s just you, by yourself. Why do you need anything fancy? Why, indeed. And what’s wrong with paper plates? They’re easy to clean up, don’t have to do dishes or worry about rinsing, emptying the dishwasher, etc. After all, it’s just you, by yourself. [...] |
